About the artist

Bio

I am primarily a self taught artist. I have been drawing & painting as long as I can remember, and have always been inspired to create in some form or another. I have attended workshops, taken drawing classes at the local colleges, and explored various different techniques and media including airbrush, watercolor, collage, sculpture, graphite, charcoal, pastel, and colored pencil. I have developed a particular attachment to charcoal, pastel, graphite, and most recently colored pencil. I have long been most inspired to create realistic images, with intricate detail. but I also enjoy just sitting down & drawing a simple shape or form on a blank sheet and just see where it goes.

ARTISTS STATEMENT

Creating art is a continuous process of using established techniques, problem solving, experimentation, and discovery. This process is what I love about art. When I look at others' work I think about the process. The message is often found in the process itself. My own work is about the creative process. I depict a variety of subjects and try not to limit myself. Sometimes just sitting down and drawing a simple shape on a blank sheet takes on a life of its own. I learn a lot through "surrendering artistic control" to the piece.
